Why is it that Hollywood hasn’t done a remake of The Road Warrior yet? It’s a hugely commercial property that’s got two generations of fresh audience in addition to the massive, built-in cult following. The effects are ripe for updating and the story is appealing enough to make it a global property. Plus, toys.
The remake machine has been tearing through properties at an astounding rate. Why not The Road Warrior? Must have complicated rights.
PS: I’m not suggesting that the original would be improved on. Just that a remake makes a ton of corporate sense.

When was the last time you watched The Road Warrior?
There is a real homo-erotic theme to the entire movie. Are the villains suppose to be gay or is it just that in this post apocalyptic world there aren’t enough women so dude on dude prison rules ensue? As a kid I didn’t realize it, but watching it now the gay S&M lifestyle embraced by the bad guys really jumps off the screen.
I think the fact that villains are made up of leather clad homosexuals makes the movie politically untouchable. Of course that could be fixed easily in the new version, but you would still be left with the whole Mel Gibson Hollywood pariah thing. -
Also,
According to the this story, a “Mad Max 4” is in the works:
