Galley Friend J.E. sends along this fantastic story about a 4-year-old boy with some pretty severe physical problems who has to wear a hearing aid. He decides he doesn’t want to wear it anymore, because he’s a comic book junkie and superheroes don’t need hearing aids. His mom writes to Marvel. The guys at Marvel create a superhero, just for him, named the Blue Ear. If this doesn’t make you tear up a little, you’re already dead.
And on the subject of disabled superheroes, over the weekend I caught up with a really, really great Daredevil book from a few years back: Joe Quesada’s Daredevil: Father.
It’s really great. It’s a noir-ish mystery and a meditation on imperfect parenting and its Superhero Specific Content is so low that I’d almost recommend it for general audiences.

Mr. Last:
Consider posting another column on Gov. Walker of Wisconsin. You o the reasons behind the Union and blue collar workers’ disappointment in their governor.
You did not mention his hiring defense counsel and the investigation he is currently undergoing. You neglected to mention the millions the Koch Bothers have contributed to his “cause” and the 70 Koch workers sent to Wisconsin to help the governor. This might be a first that a corporation has sent in its paid employees to campaign for a governor?!?
How could you miss the reasons behind the subject of your commentary? It is a serious omission.

Let me guess. Daredevil’s father is one of the Koch brothers. They blinded him so he wouldn’t recognize them.

I think we’ve found The Blue Ear’s first villain: Off-Topic Commenter! “Hijacking comment threads across the world, Jacqueline a beusse cares not for touching stories of little children; she only wants you to know that the Koch Brothers are, like, totes evil and stuffs. In her disguise as Off-Topic Commenter she won’t rest until all comment threads are ruined.”

JVL,
Jacqueline wants you to know that the Koch Bros. are bad — evil, really. How did you not know that? Aren’t you downloading the daily talking points?
The Koch Bros. also tried to stop this poor 4-year-old boy from wearing his hearing aid. I see that you did not include this *fact* in your blog post. How could you miss this?
Sincerely,
Jack
