GOP Debate, Alderaan, Jeb’s Dead

That’s pretty much my take-away from last night’s debate in Boulder, Colorado. Also, the real field is down to six candidates. So it’s later than you think.

I thought Trump had a good night last night, and said so. Then this happened:

Yuge.

But the best thing ever might be Sonny Bunch’s piece on the destruction of Alderaan. Pure genius.

The interesting thing to me is that Jeb, Kasich, Huckabee, and to a lesser extent Paul are the kind of opponent Democrats think they understand, and therefore would prefer to run against. Whereas Christie rattles them, Rubio is too quick on his feet, Carson is unfathomable, and Trump is the new Palin, except with (maddeningly for metro-libs) crossover appeal and slipperier than mercury. I can’t figure what happens to Cruz or Carly in a general election but they’re definitely The Other to mainstream leftie opinipnators. Someone, either Newt or Karl Rove, complained in 2012 that the debates served as a needlessly protracted oppo goldmine for the incumbent party. In light of that alternative I am enjoying the way 2016 must be playing so far in the minds of the high-strung politically rusty (D) bundlers — to say nothing of how the GOP brass feels about it, hahaha
