I’m not going to pick on the New York Times for just discovering the Gregory Brothers, since I’m usually at least a year later than they are here. And to prove it, Galley Friend P.G. turned me on to a fantastic BBC series called Luther. It’s really great TV, starring Idris Elba as the lead, a homicide detective. He’s great, but for my money, Ruth Wilson owns the show. She plays a sociopath with a heart of gold–kind of Dexter meets Wonderfalls. I’ll give a short, spoiler-ish precis below in invisotext.
Wilson’s character, Alice, is a suspect in a murder Luther investigates early in the show. She’s guilty as sin, but has committed a perfect crime and, once she’s in the clear, she kind of goes soft for Luther. His life is a mess–looming divorce, an internal affairs investigation–and she decides to fix it for him. And that’s when the show goes from very good to awesome.

I loved Wonderfalls. Must go pick it up on Amazon.com right now. Thanks for the tip on Luther; Idris Elba has been excellent in everything I’ve seen him in so it’s great that he’s in a show that can match his excellence. Looking forward to Ruth Wilson, who is new to me.
