On Superman-Batman
July 24th, 2013

I worked out some of my angst concerning Zack Snyder’s coming Superman-Batman project over at TWS.

Bonus: Galley Reader J.V. sends along this exhaustive chronicle of the battles between Batman and Superman. The takeaway is that Kal-El crushes Fancy-Pants Bruce just about every time out of the gate.

JV, as long as we get at least ONE sequence of bats kickin’ the old boy’s rear….geeks rejoice, indeed.

Of course Superman wins in a fight against Batman. That’s the problem with Superman. He’s so perfect and invulnerable that he’s boring. Superman has one weakness. If you’re scripting a fight between Superman and Batman, there are only so many ways you can cleverly have Batman pull kryptonite out of his belt before everyone starts to roll their eyes.

People root for Batman because he’s vulnerable, which makes him interesting. Rooting for Superman is like rooting for the Yankees. He’s most interesting when he fails.

Must we drag Nic Cage’s children into this discussion?
