Reasons Twitter is Awesome

Yesterday I was a shill for Rubio. Today I’m a shill for Trump.

Can’t wait until everyone moves on to Snapchat.

It’s the same what happened with Facebook: initially it was a skeletal, flimsy site only available at a few East Coast colleges (technically, just with access to one of said institution’s domain names). But the entire thing was wafting on snob appeal and exclusivity. Then they opened registration to anyone with an .edu email. Then to high school kids, then pushing it on their parents and aunts & uncles. Today you supposedly need it “to be a professional” or at least to fulfill your duty of furnishing free market research and personal dossier to our corp-government masters.

Twitter was a prima-facie useless web site in 2007 when I first looked at it. The only other users were yuppie aspies employed in software. At that time most Tweets(tm) concerned dynamic link libraries, vegan cooking, Objectivism, and other crap of that standard. Then journalists discovered it. I’ll never understand why, but somehow it appealed to this crowd on such a deep emotional level, that soon they infested it, all the way from TV/radio down to newspapers’ web sites’ online-only contributors. Then pop entertainers & celebrities (read: non-Asian minorities) were tipped and found it to be a decent replacement for Soundscan or Nielsen ratings or QBR or whatever. As a result the journalists feel something that was “theirs” has been taken away from them. Hey journalists: nothing’s preventing you from cracking open “Head First HTML & CSS,” 2nd edition. It’s only 700 pages. Well within your abilities
