How’s this for counter-intuitive: “RIM is a more formidable player than either Google or Apple.”
First blush reaction: Isn’t this more of a Slate piece?

Sorry, but that guy is a fucking moron. However good QNX is (and it’s good, though not as awesome as the writer believes), he doesn’t address RIM’s biggest liability: it’s proprietary network. Every single blackberry email in the world goes across some piece of proprietary RIM hardware, and when they have an outage (average at least one per year, and they can last days), just about every blackberry user is screwed. RIM will always have this problem, and hence people are fleeing in droves. But hey, don’t let facts like market share get in the way of a good counter-intuitive narrative.

His argument for QNX sounds an awful lot like the argument for WebOS when the Palm Pre was released in 2009.
