My review of Revenge of the Sith and roundup of the prequels is up now.

Just read your review…and while I agree with pretty much everything in your review, I must say that when I saw the opening line (“a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…”) I was 7 years old again…and loving every minute of it.

Just fyi. The line “Luke, I am your father” was never spoken by Vader and does not appear in the film, “Empire…”. The line is actually, “No…I am your father.”-JC, embarrassed to reveal his geekdom trivia 🙂

Jonathan, Just read your review and enjoyed it. One quibble though. You (and others) have talked about how Anakin was supposed to be the chosen one to save the galaxy. Correct me if I’m wrong, but he’s actually meant to bring balance to the Force. Since the Jedi are in control, “Balance” probably means taking that power away from them. This isn’t always bad but I’m always amazed that such (supposedly) smart guys as the Jedi never thought of this angle.

I whole heartedly agree with your comment about the whole movie being cartoonish. One comment I took from the “Extras” DVD from Lucas was that he couldn’t do everything he wanted with the first three movies due to the limited technology he had. I think that was one of the things that made those movies so great! Believeable sets that fit our conception of reality – because they had to be constructed in reality. Everyone knows that reality puts limits on anyone’s imagination! Everyone imagines that they can play golf like Tiger Woods, but reality dictates otherwise.Even Yoda – he has been turned into some caricature(sp?) of his original self with the fight scene with Dooku in the second movie. Lucas just couldn’t leave enough alone and turned Yoda into a “Baby Mask”-line jumping bean of fury.

In ROTJ it is Vader/Anakin who kills the emperor, so couldn’t one say that the prophecy is fulfilled, it just takes a while and comes after terrible tragedy.

John:One thing you forgot to mention. At the end of Revenge, when Vader is standing on the bridge watching the Death Star being built, you will see an actor made up to look like Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin) standing on the left. That was a great touch. Made my heart pound like it did when I was six and I saw Star Wars for the first time.

Mr. Last,Read your story. Spot on. The original trilogy is so much better for many, many reasons. Thank you for taking time to write and express what many of us are feeling after seeing Sith.
