3) This short essay by Chris Caldwell is by turns hysterical, awe-inspiring, and profound. Also, it contains two sentences which are instant classics. I’ll give you one of them:
People like him collect the fruits of modernity in the form of intensity, rather than longevity or comfort.
Treat yourself. Right. Now.

The other classic sentence is presumably the one that begins, “After reflecting that it was quite a reversal of the natural order when regular citizens have brainstorms and Harvard has to clean up after them…” Very nicely done, even by Caldwell’s usual high standards.
