My admiration for the reporters who make up the White House pool is nearly boundless. The following report about the White House Christmas tree lighting ceremony was, sadly, filed anonymously. Still, the writer deserves our admiration:
Three weeks before Christmas
At the White House
Your pool was all gathered
Down in lower pressWe boarded the vans
Out on the South Lawn
Where even ol’ Barney
Was suppressing a yawnTo reach the Ellipse
It would be easier to walk
But the security precautions
Would make the agents balkSo the motorcade departed
The motorcade arrived
And all of this happened
At four minutes of fivePotus and Flotus took seats
Behind ballistic glass walls
The Marine Band played
And in came Santa ClausSt. Nick was fat and jolly
And in costume looked hot
I knew in an instant
It must be Willard ScottScott took the stage
And played a little trick
He plugged his employer
General Electric:“Ho ho ho
He he he
All those lights
Are from G.E.”The singers sang blues, rock
And songs about Jesus
Your poolers wondered if the
Temperature would freeze usPotus gave his speech
Then lit up the tree
Transcripts will follow
The return was event-free

Well, the anonymity is understandable. I wouldn’t want my art to be affected by a need to please the President. Maybe he’s not on the president’s list of friendly reporters, yet.I imagine something like this:”Mr. President, so-and-so put a poem on the internet about (among other things) how you never answer any questions.””Thanks for the heads-up, it could save me the trouble of potentially listening to him ask one of his questions. You know I dont read the internet, newspapers, magazines, or watch TV or listen to the radio, so I wouldn’t have known, otherwise.”http://niemanwatchdog.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=background.view&backgroundid=0039Does this sort of thing bother Republicans at all? Is it uniquely Democrat or liberal to want to interrogate our elected officials?

Woops, I meant to say something like “Maybe he’s on the president’s list of friendly reporters, and wants to stay there.”Also, blogger is terribly slow, 24×7. I can see how that might work in one’s favor if a blog receives a lot of traffic (a technologically iffy “think before you post” effect), but if you ever move this to some service that allows for making comments in under 60 seconds, that would be too cool.
