Weiner Night at the Improv
August 9th, 2013

Call me crazy, but Anthony Weiner may have just won my vote.

Seriously–he’s really good here. I don’t quite get what’s supposed to be scandalous about this.

On the plus side, he thinks on his feet, and interacts with other people like a human being. No scrambling for canned answers, no Romneyesque fumbling for autoreply 4(b)ii. That’s not nothing.

On the minus side, he acts put out to have to don the politician’s bullshit mask. No eye contact with the camera, no interest in pretending that he believes his answers–if you can’t bring a little thunder for this kind of softball, the unions are going to steamroll you.

On the WTF side, isn’t he supposed to be funny?

YouTube comment ftw, for once: “I’d like to comment on this video but — oh hey, good to see ya, bro — but, uh, I’ll make this — thank you, you too! — I’ll make this short. Yeah so, it’s a tough world — Cool, buddy! Thanks! — Hey I gotta go. I’m just too fuckin’ boss, I’m a celeb! lulz!”

“middle class” “those struggling to make it”

He was halfway decent in the face of leading but non specific questions. More an exec rise in bad journalism than a wiener tour de wiener I mean force

OT: did you see Forbes’ new list of highest paid television personalities:

    Simon Cowell: $95 million
    Howard Stern: $95 million
    Glenn Beck: $90 million

Wow, Beck got dropped down the media hole and now he’s making $90 million per year!

Seems like the same old smug Wein to me. He acts as if he isn’t addressing a fellow symbiotic parasite. Anyway “politician is surprisingly game with/abusive toward perfunctory reporter” isn’t even a new mode of scoring cred cheap. That peaked in American mainstream movie fare of the Simpson-Bruckheimer-Joel Silver mold back in the early 90s, where the slimy newshound always caused the heroes’ vehicle to crash or blew their cover or somehow ruined the big strategy due to his particular venality. Can’t live with ’em, can’t live without ’em

If smarmy asshole is your cup of tea, then yeah, he won your vote.

You write for a nominally conservative publication, no?
