More Emo Eagles Fans
December 2nd, 2012

Via the Czabe:

Reid is a strange–really, really strange–case. He is, hands down, the most successful coach in Eagles history. You could make a case that he’s one of the three or four best coaches in the NFL over the last 15 years. And yet not only is he going to leave town utterly despised–he was never really liked in the first place. Part of this might be that the closer you get to Reid, the less attractive he is as a person. For instance, in an industry full of a-hole managers, he wasn’t just the worst boss in the NFL–he might have been the worst boss in America. He had lots of real strengths as a coach, but he was never able to improve on any of his professional weaknesses. All of the things that drove Eagles’ fans nuts in the first season he is still doing today. (Clock management, in-game adjustments, draft player evaluation.)

All of which is why Eagles fans are going to be thrilled to see Reid go, even as they understand that (1) they’ve never had it so good and (2) they’re probably about to head into a nuclear winter of bad Eagle football. It’s strange.

The Romneys in Exile
December 2nd, 2012

Nope. I still can’t figure out why voters have never warmed to Mitt Romney. It’s a mystery!

By all accounts, the past month has been most difficult on Romney’s wife, Ann, who friends said believed up until the end that ascending to the White House was their destiny. They said she has been crying in private and trying to get back to riding her horses.

“Fake” Emo Eagles Fan
November 28th, 2012

From Galley Brother BJ:

(1) Quick question: Which team has won a game more recently? The Philadelphia Phillies of the Philadelphia Eagles? Obviously, the question answers itself.
(2) Going into Monday night’s dumpster fire game against the Carolina Panthers, the Eagles had the following stat: Since firing defensive coordinator Juan Castillo, opposing QB’s had completed 79% of their passes for 12 TD’s with 0 interceptions. After the game, the completion percentage dipped a bit, but the TD to INT ratio inched up to 14-0.

You know Jindal’s being a smart-ass because of the “many”
November 19th, 2012

In this line from Bobby Jindal about Romney and last week’s “gifts” remark:

“Gov. Romney’s an honorable person that needs to be thanked for his many years of public service, but his campaign was largely about his biography and his experience,” he said. “And it’s a very impressive biography and very impressive set of experiences. But time and time again, biography and experience is not enough to win an election. You have to have a vision. You have to connect your policies to the aspirations of the American people. I don’t think the campaign did that, and as a result this became a contest between personalities. And you know what? Chicago won that.”

That “many years of public service” is so sarcastic you can practically hear Gruden’s “That’s awesome.”

Dept. of Are You F@&$!G Kidding?
November 16th, 2012

I’m not familiar with Michael Tracy at the “Friendly Atheist” is, but here he is mounting a broad-based attack against Republicans, conservatism, et al with the following:

There are a number of reasons why U.S. “Conservative Movement” activists are suddenly declaringMitt Romney to be “the worst major-party nominee since World War II.”

The link, of course, is to me here.

“Suddenly declaring”? Honestly. (Don’t pull a muscle going through the full list, MichaelT. I’ll pull a highlight reel for you here and here and here and here and here and here and here. This is, of course, a partial list.)

Maybe Mollie Hemingway over at GetReligion should give the rest of the Patheos crew a talk about the dangers of parachuting in on subjects about which you know very little.
