Over at the Daily–which, thanks to the new iPad, I can finally read–I’ve got a column up about just how wrong Obama was in mocking Rutherford Hayes.
Btw, the Daily is pretty awesome. I highly recommend it.

Crabbe has been sentenced to two years in prison for participating in riots.
No word on the status of Goyle.

I saw a good 15 minutes of NCAA basketball last week and as fate would have it ten of those minutes were the end of the Duke-Lehigh game. Awesome.
In belated celebration, there’s this. Stick around for (1) “Don’t care what they say, painting dudes is okay.” and (2) The Wojo/K photoshop. It’s at 2:47, but you’ll know it when you see it.

I’ll get on the Romney bandwagon tomorrow if he gives an answer like this. Pure genius.

That first year John Thompson III took the Hoyas to the Final Four, I started warning Matus that Georgetown was making an enormous institutional gamble by hiring him. Because if it doesn’t work out–if it turns out that Thompson isn’t a very good coach, or even just isn’t a good fit–the university cannot fire him.
And as a rule, big institutions shouldn’t hire people they can’t get rid of. And with John Thompson Jr. still stalking around DC as ex-coach/racial pioneer/public landmark, JTIII is basically tenured. There’s no firing him while the Old Man is still standing.
So, what does Georgetown have in JTIII? The first two years a Sweet Sixteen and a Final Four. Since then:
* Lost in the second round
* Lost in the first round
* Lost in the first round
* Lost in the first round
* Lost in the second round
And in each of these losses, they’ve underperformed their seed. But hey, it’s a young team!

Galley Friend X sends along a note about this striking choice by a photo editor at the NYT. It’s totally safe for work, mind you. Yet the photo wouldn’t be entirely out of place in a shoot for Maxim. Even though it’s in a Business section story about corporate satisfaction surveys.
Update: Galley Friend X (a different one) notes that the NYT must have done a whole shoot for that story, because in syndication, a different photo was used.
How did Galley Friend X find this second photo? Who can say.

I’ve mentioned Galley Friend Mike Russell’s wonderful Sabertooth Vampire comics before. Wonderfully enough, he’s gone big-time: Sabertooth Vampire is going to be included in two Dark Horse Presents anthologies. The issues will be #12 (on sale May 23) and #14 (July 18). At some lesser comic shops (like the ones in the DC area), it can be a little hard to get Dark Horse Presents, so you might want to put in a pre-order with your local Head Nerd.

PLAYBOY: You’re a blogger and political columnist, as well as a conservative pundit in the liberal wilds on MSNBC. But aside from being John McCain’s daughter, why should we listen to you?
MCCAIN: Hey, I get it. People love me or hate me and there’s nothing in between. But I’ve been in politics literally my entire life. My mom was pregnant with me at the 1984 Republican convention. I was on my father’s campaign when I was 13. I’ve earned the right to be here and talk about it, and I’m not scared to get down and dirty. . . .
PLAYBOY: Do you have any tips for the offspring of campaigners on the election trail?
MCCAIN: Get sleep, be nice and shut up. I wasn’t always a peach to be around. I could have been nicer to the Secret Service and some staffers, and I voiced my opinion way too much. . . .
PLAYBOY: So we shouldn’t read anything into your vocal support of same-sex marriage and the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” or how much you love Rachel Maddow and hang out with Tila Tequila?
MCCAIN: Honey, you’re nobody unless you have a gay rumor about you. I’ve been hit on by women from time to time, and it might simplify my life if I were gay, but no. Rachel and Tila are just great people. . . .
PLAYBOY: Do you ever think twice about partying in public for fear it will show up on Gawker the next morning?
MCCAIN: Oh, I can’t live like that. I do get paranoid when I’m wearing low-cut dresses that somebody’s going to take a picture and put it on the internet and be like, “Meghan was showing off her breasts again.” But you know, showing a little cleavage can make a girl feel sexy too. Like Jessica Simpson says, if you got it, you should flaunt it once in a while. I’ve been pretty open about the fact that I like to go out and have a good time with friends. I’ve never done drugs, and I never would. So there’s that. But what am I supposed to do, stay in and read a book?
All right, two comments. (1) That last sentence is really a perfect answer for the first question, no?
(2) I don’t know her at all, but I’ll stipulate that Rachel Maddow is a “great person.” Tila Tequila, though? Really? Really?
